Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoIT) has finalised draft of Telecommunications Policy-2015 and has sent to Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet for approval.
Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) will judge and consider the draft on the base of Section 8 of Pakistan Telecommunication Act 1996 in which made amendment in 2006. Minister of State for IT, Anusha Rahman while announcing finalisation of the draft at a dinner has said that Policy would be a blueprint for sector development for years to come with socio economic development and it will ensure to develop feasible environment for telecommunication sector in the country.
The basic purpose of new policy will be ‘Universally available, reasonable and eminence telecommunication services provided via open, viable and well managed markets and universally adapted to the advantage of the economy and society’.
Minister of State for IT said, “ suitable rearrangement in the mandates and areas of focus of Universal Service Fund (USF) and National ICT R&D Fund have also been made to support the “Accelerated Digitisation Goal” of the government for spurring socio-economic growth.”
