26 million SIMs have blocked for not re verifying by their owners as the re verification drive ended yesterday. In verification drive 103 million SIMs were supposed to verify via biometric system. Telecom companies asked to all SIM owners to personally visit franchises or retail outlet along with their SIMs and verify it by matching thumb impression with NADRA’s Database.
According to collected data, 103 million SIMs were to be verified, 64 million SIMs for 1 and 2 SIMs per CNIC and 30 million SIMs for three and more SIMs per CNIC per mobile operator. However on re verification, 71.1 million SIMs were verified while 9.2 million were unverified and number of blocked SIMs were 16.7 million.
Mobile phone companies are asked by the regulator to submit a compliance report on Monday after blocked all unverified numbers. After the re verification Warid, Telenor, Mobilink, Ufone, Zong lost 1.65 million, 8.53 million, 7.55 million, 3.86 million, 4.5 million customers respectively.
